General Information and Executive Committee
General Information
- founded in 1991 -
The International Breast Ultrasound School (IBUS)
was formed in 1991, and is incorporated in Switzerland.
The goal of IBUS is to improve the standards of breast
ultrasound
through the provision of high-quality educational programmes,
and since its formation, it has established itself as the leading
providor of a range of teaching programmes
covering all aspects of breast ultrasound.
The activities of IBUS are governed by the Executive
Council which consists of the Executive Committee
together with the Administration Board and the Advisory Board.
IBUS seminars consist of high-quality didactic
presentations with international
faculty members,
and where possible practical workshops are included to give participants
hands-on experience.
With each programme, comprehensive booklets are published containing
manuscripts of lecture topics,
and certificates are provided confirming participant attendance.
IBUS is committed to a series of four to six
seminars each year in various parts of the world,
and is planning more extensive educational programmes in future
years
either held as stand-alone seminars or attached to major international
scientific meetings.
Seminars have been held in Africa, Asia, Europe, and
in North and South America.
IBUS is collaborating with a number of ultrasound societies
and educational organizations
in order to raise the standards of breast ultrasound,
and to improve knowledge on thel use of imaging and Doppler techniques
for breast disease assessment.
Reading material included in this site consists of
book and article references
selected to provide an overview
of recent trends in ultrasonic imaging and vascularity assessment.
The views expressed are those of the authors, and IBUS
does not accept responsibility for the content.
High quality images of breast anatomy and pathology
can be obtained with ultrasonic equipment
which meets the specifications outlined by IBUS in its
seminar programmes.
Characteristics recommended for high resolution imaging are listed
in the equipment specifications.
In 1999, IBUS published the Guidelines
for the Ultrasonic Examination of the Breast
in order to set standards which would improve the use of ultrasound
for breast disease assessment.
IBUS has produced a set of
case studies in which mammograms and ultrasonic images are
correlated,
and the relevance of the imaging findings placed in a clinical
setting.
