
The Breast Ultrasound Seminar is aimed at clinicians and technologists, and will provide a thorough understanding of the ultrasonic interpretation criteria used to define breast anatomy and recognize changes in tissues due to early breast cancers and benign conditions. The differentiation between benign and malignant tissues will be explained, and the current use of needle biopsy techniques for tissue sampling presented from the viewpoint of providing a definitive diagnosis. Management protocols of patients will be reviewed, and methods of assessment described to provide an optimum outcome for a variety of abnormalities. Vascularity assessment of the breast and pathology will be described, and the role of contrast agents reviewed.
* To recognize the variants of ultrasonic images in the normal breast
* To become confident with the diagnostic criteria used to differentiate between early breast cancers and benign conditions
* To understand the role of ultrasound guidance for the different tissue sampling procedures
* To optimize the clinical value of the ultrasonic examination
* To improve the standards of breast ultrasound for assessing breast pathology
